Mixed Ages Class
Mixed Ages classes offer developmentally appropriate musical experiences for children from birth to age five. Mixed age groupings foster natural, family-style learning where the whole family can participate together. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older children; older children learn by leading the younger ones; adults model active, joyful music-making. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, listening, observing, and exploring the instruments. The wide variety of adult-child activities encourages fun interaction and offers new ways for families to play musically at home. Our nine song collections with songbooks, cds, and online resources provide years of exciting musical growth. Parents, grandparents, friends, and caregivers are always welcome to accompany the children. Classes meet for 45 minutes.
Movin’ 3s & 4s
Our Movin’ class is primarily geared toward the high energy ages of 3 and 4. Although most threes and fours thrive in the mixed-age environment, this class offers an option for your kinesthetic learner. In this family class, you will enjoy the familiar routine of the Mixed Ages class with an emphasis on movement experience, rhythm and dance improvisation, independent singing, and dramatic play. Teachers encourage children (and adults) to express their creativity. Younger siblings are welcome to attend class with their older brother or sister. (Please discuss your child’s readiness with his/her teacher or the director.) Parents, grandparents, friends, and caregivers are always welcome to accompany the children. Classes meet for 45 minutes.
Big Kids Class
Music Together Big Kids® is a 60-minute class geared to the interests and abilities of 5-, 6-, and 7-year-olds. The program blends the elements of Music Together® that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for this age group. Big Kids classes lay the foundation for Basic Music Literacy, complementing music instruction in school or instrument lessons, and leading to a lifetime of joyful music-making. The curriculum includes solfege, solos and ensembles, folk dances, harmony singing, vocal development, and drumming. In a safe, fun environment, your child can experiment with new activities like conducting and improvisation, story songs, and game songs. Parent attendance is welcome but not required. Each child receives a binder, Big Kids songbook, CD, solfege cards, and HomePlay pages. The entire family is encouraged to stay connected and continue the fun and learning at home through the weekly HomePlay activities. Classes meet for one hour.
Infants nine months and younger at the time of registration may enroll in this one-time introduction to Music Together classes. Activities and materials are specifically designed for parents to learn as much as possible about their infant’s musical development. Families will receive a baby-safe instrument, 2 music CDS, a songbook full of activities and ideas, Growth Chart, Parent DVD, and a special information booklet just for babies! Classes meet for 45 minutes. No older siblings, please.
